FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is OEM?

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer.
We use this term to show we sell to manufacturers who use our motors, gear motors and gears in their final product (i.e. medical equipment, agriculture equipment).

What is Fractional Horse Power?

Everything you want to know about FHP can be found here.

Are there different types of AC electric motor design?

Yes. Asynchronous and synchronous motors are the two main categories of AC motor designs. AC electric motors most commonly use asynchronous designs, more specifically AC induction motor design.

What is an AC induction motor?

AC induction motors are the most common form of asynchronous motors. Induction motors are the simplest and most rugged electric motor available. These AC electric motors consist of two electrical assemblies: the wound stator and the rotor assembly.

How does an AC induction motor generate power?

The currents flowing in the rotor are induced by alternating currents flowing in the stator. The resulting electromagnetic effect produces a force (or power) that rotates the motor.

How does Power Electric create custom electric motors?

First, we determine the required specs for the electric motor including the necessary voltage, frequency, speed and power. Then, we work with our global network of motor specialists to design and manufacture a custom motor for the specific application.

Is there a minimum order quantity on custom motor and gear motor applications?

It greatly depends on OEM specifications. Please contact our sales and engineer staff to talk through your project for more specifics.

How do I get a replacement motor or gear motor for my product?

If you’ve popped the cover off your equipment and found our name on the motor’s sticker we recommend you contact the manufacturer of your equipment first. Chances are the company who built your equipment purchased a motor from us in a large volume quantity.

Does Power Electric offer engineering design assistance?

No, for legal reasons our engineers do not assist with application design however we are here for assistance in refining motor or gear motor specifications.

How much heat can a motor or gear motor handle?

Many variables play a role in heat tolerance in a motor: how much power is exerted for how long, if there is a fan built in to the product to cool, ambient temperature. Our motor and gear motor engineer is here to help answer that question when working on your motor application.

Do you sell waterproof motors and gear motors?

We are able to source motors that are IP-Rated. Please contact us to discuss your project.

Do you sell dust proof motors and gear motors?

We are able to source motors that are IP-Rated. Please contact us to discuss your project.

Do you sell explosion proof motors and gear motors?

We may be able to source motors that are explosion proof. Please contact us to discuss your project.
